Human Resource Internship Opportunity

Dear School of Business Students,Below is a job description for a non-paid internship position in human resources with the Riverside Center for Behavioral Medicine.The internship position is open within Shaunette Millers department, and they prefer to work with only La Sierra University students or recent graduates to fill this and other future positions. The position is non-paid; however the intern will be provided free meals. Attached is a job description that outlines what is expected of the intern. The Center for Behavioral Medicine would really prefer candidates who are able to commit to at least 6 months to 1 year, to gain HR and organizational experience. Position Title: Human Resources Intern

Department: Human Resources            

Schedule: Full time/Part time, Non-paid

Reports to: Human Resources Director

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Human Resources Director, this position is responsible for providing administrative support including general clerical and project based work as directed by the Human Resources Director. Assist the Human Resources Department in day to day activities. Students must be currently enrolled or recent graduates, and plan on pursuing a career in human resources or organizational development. An ideal intern would be available to work a minimum of 20 hours a week, Monday-Friday during normal business hours. Also, the length of time for the internship is 6 to 12 months. Interested student or graduates must submit a resume, cover letter and three references to the Human Resources Department before being considered for an interview.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with new hire and benefits processing and enrollments
  • Assist with recruiting and staffing
  • Maintain employee files and conduct file audit
  • Prepare new hire and benefit packets
  • Perform miscellaneous office duties (answering phones, coordinating meetings, etc.)
  • Maintain inventory of human resources documents and supplies
  • Provides public information such as verifying employment, reference checks and background checks.
  • In conjunction with department heads, coordinate staff meetings, classes and orientation.
  • Designs internal personnel forms
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
  • Conduct audits to ensures that I-9s, licensure and credentials are current.
  • Lead and/or assist with special projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient mathematics skills.
  • Possess strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers as well as Microsoft Office skills.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development or a closely related field.
  • Good understanding of business operations and current employment legal requirements.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Working Condition/Physical Requirements

  • Able to tolerate long periods of sitting and standing
  • Able to tolerate gradient levels of standing, walking, and stooping
