Event Planning and Hospitality Internship

Job description: There are a number of projects we’ll be working on this summer with regard generating event planning ideas, completing free vendor profiles, social media marketing and internet marketing.  Students have a unique opportunity to really learn – in detail – about the companies that comprise the hospitality/event planning industry, what people look for when they’re planning an event and how decisions are made.  They are given an opportunity to talk to business owners and to develop their interpersonal skills.

All students, regardless of project assignment, are given the opportunity to learn about search engine optimization, how Google really works, how to improve site rankings and what the key components are to building a good website.  These are important skills to bring to any new employer and our objective is to help you to build critical resume-building knowledge and experience.

Location: Washington, DC; Students work from home, communicating with us via video conferencing, instant messaging, email and phone.

Expected hours and days of the week: There is a lot of scheduling flexibility.  This is currently an unpaid internship and students must be seeking internship credit to apply.  Many of our students elect to remain with us for multiple semesters.

Interested candidates should email a cover letter and resume to Kathleen Kilmer, CEO at kkilmer@EasyEventPlanning.com or call 877-337-5261.

Internet Marketing Internship

What You’d Learn

Learn and practice the most important skills any marketing major can bring to their first employer – search engine optimization and internet marketing. Having these skills on your resume can put you in a completely different class than fellow job applicants and allow you to make immediate, significant contributions to your future employers.  You’d most likely be in the first one in the company to possess them.

Students will have the opportunity to learn:

  1. How Google really works
  2. How Google ranks pages and each of the key elements you can manipulate to improve rankings
  3. On-site SEO (Search Engine Optimization) – title tags, description tags, H1 tags, url structures, etc
  4. How to write unique content for the web
  5. Off-site SEO – article and blog marketing, link building, etc
  6. How to conduct keyword research and what goes in to choosing the right keywords for a page
  7. How to analyze the competition and know if you’ll ever have a chance of appearing on page 1 for a particular keyword.
  8. How to track the progress of keywords you may work on throughout the semester

Students with strong writing skills may have the opportunity to have articles published to the planning tips library at our site, our blog and/or on article-sharing websites.   Some students may even have the opportunity to oversee the marketing for an entire region at the site, where you can track your search engine rankings throughout the semester.  We also have projects related to social media marketing and public relations.  We’re looking for serious-minded students who are going to take full advantage of this opportunity to learn everything they can during the semester.
