Assembly Features Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Mark Chapin Johnson

With the brand new Tom and Vi Zapara School of Business under construction, one of the largest enrollment counts in our history, and the relaunch of our renowned Enactus (formerly SIFE) Team, we have begun a new academic year with much to celebrate. And to celebrate the entrepreneurial potential of our students, the Zapara School of Business was pleased to hold its first assembly of the year with featured speaker Mark Chapin Johnson.

Mark Chapin Johnson is the founder and trustee of the Mark Chapin Johnson Trust, a developer, builder, and owner of various small commercial and residential properties in the western United States. He began his career as founder, partner, and registered principal of Eastland Securities Corporation, a regional NASD firm specializing in small initial public offerings. Mark also was founder, chairman, and CEO of Chapin Specialty Healthcare, a nationwide distributor of critical care and emergency pharmaceuticals to hospital pharmacies; in 2005 it merged with AmerisourceBergen, a Fortune 25 company.

Mark is also the founder, chairman, and CEO of the Mark Chapin Johnson Foundation, a 501(C3) public benefit foundation active in various philanthropic activities. He is a board member of Boys Hope/Girls Hope and the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. He is chairman of the Institute for the Study of Media and Public Interest at the Dodge College of Media Arts at Chapman University. He is a trustee of the World Affairs Council, Orange County, and of Chapman University, Orange, California. Mark also was board chairman and CEO of the Orange County Performing Arts Center, chairman emeritus of the Southern California Entrepreneurship Academy, and board member of the YMCA of Orange County.

He has been active as an organizer, co-chairman, and finance chairman for numerous federal, state, and local political campaigns. He has been a frequent panelist and contributor on national cable and public broadcasting television programs, has instructed and lectured several academic courses, and has published several articles and essays.

Mark received his PhD Political Science from Claremont Graduate University in 2012 writing his dissertation on Congressional Decision Making through an Assessment of American Energy Policy.  He received an MA in politics from Claremont University in 2010, and a BA summa cum laude in social sciences, triple concentration (history, political science and organizational leadership) from Chapman University in 2005.

Personal interests include adventure travel to almost one hundred countries, a North Pole expedition, hiking, skiing, and flying his AStar helicopter.

Mark and his wife, Barbara, have residences in Ladera Ranch and San Juan Capistrano, California; they have four sons.
