EVENTS & MARKETING INTERNSHIPS WITH SOLAR NON-PROFIT (Riverside, CA) GRID Alternatives ( is a non-profit organization and solar contractor that brings the benefits of solar technology to low-income communities. Using a barn-raising model, GRID Alternatives leads teams of volunteers and job trainees to install solar power on qualifying homes, providing needed savings for families struggling to make ends meet while preparing workers for jobs in the fast-growing solar industry.

We are offering unpaid Events, Marketing, and Communications internships with our Inland Empire office located in Riverside, CA for Fall 2013 to assist with event promotion and resource development, primarily for our largest event of the year, Solarthon 2013, which is our annual community solar installation and fundraiser. The interns will market Solarthon to individual participants, the community, the media and community leaders; develop public facing collateral for events; raise in-kind donations of food, prizes, and supplies; recruit individual Solarthon fundraisers and event volunteers; and/or coordinate trainings, site logistics and day-of-event activities.

This is an exciting opportunity that will give you experience in fundraising, non-profit work, the renewable energy sector, and community engagement while also boosting your resume. You will work in a key fundraising and events coordination role while receiving mentoring and exposure to all aspects of the GRID Alternatives mission.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Commitment to an internship from September 23rd through December 20th, 3 days per week, or approximately 15-20 hours/week
2. Capacity to create positive relationships with potential community supporters and funders
3. Comfort with soliciting businesses and individuals for monetary or in-kind support
4. Superior professional written and verbal communications skills
5. Strong skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
6. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
7. Interest in and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, green jobs and/ or helping families and communities in need
